Accidentally In Love

Chapter 10

Shippo kissed her tenderly at first as he felt her arms wrap around his neck and he slowly slipped his arms around her waist.

As she started to kiss him back the kiss became more passionate and Shippo thought he would lose his mind.

He could feel her body touching his, he could taste her lips, he could smell her…god could he smell her, and he didn’t think he would be able to pull himself away from her any time soon.

Fortunately for him, trying to get away was the last think on Kagome’s mind as she continued to kiss him with all of the love and passion that had been building up inside her within the last couple of days.

They continued to kiss for a few more moments until they both broke apart gasping for air.

“I love you too.”  Shippo was finally able to say it as he smiled and held Kagome breathlessly.

They stood and held each other tightly until Kagome finally looked up at him.

“We…we should probably get Shinji some water and get back before they come looking for us.”  She whispered.

Shippo smiled.  “Yeah…I guess so.”  He answered as he gave her another quick kiss and they pulled apart.

They held hands and smiled as they continued together towards the stream to get Shinji’s water.

“Where have they been for so long?”  Inuyasha asked as he paced back and forth.  ‘Kagome and Shippo have been gone for a while now, maybe I should go look for them.’

Inuyasha was about to leave and do just that when they came walking back into the clearing happily.

Inuyasha scowled, “Where have you been?  We should have left a long time ago.”  He asked as he stood before the two with his arms crossed.

“We just got a little side-tracked.”  Kagome supplied as Shippo placed the bucket containing the water down.

“Thanks.”  Shinji replied as he came over to get some.

“Alright, we’ll take a few more minutes to get water and then we leave.”  Inuyasha said.

The group was walking again.  It had been an entire day since Shippo and Kagome had confessed how they felt about each other.  So far they had told everyone except Inuyasha.  Kagome was still unsure of how he would react if he found out so she had decided it was best to keep it from him for now.

They were finally arriving at the village and Kagome gasped as she saw the damage that the demon had been causing in the village.  She looked around at the destruction around her and was speechless as she felt a hand slip into hers.

It was Shippo, Kagome smiled at him as she tried not to seem so bothered by the devastation before her.

The group slowly continued through the village and Inuyasha and Shippo both scowled as they began to smell something or someone approaching them.  

“You smell that Shippo?”  Inuyasha asked.

Shippo nodded.  “Yeah, it smells like we won’t have to go looking for this demon.”

Everyone stood their ground as the demon in question finally came into view so the others could see.

“So you’re the one that has been causing all of this trouble.”  Inuyasha stated.

Kagome was disappointed for a moment as she noticed something.  She looked over at Shippo who glanced over at her when he noticed her looking at him.

“No jewel shards.”  She stated.

Shippo nodded.  ‘So we came all this way for nothing/’  He thought at first.

Then he glanced over at Shinji.  Well, maybe not for nothing.

He looked back at the demon as he noticed that Inuyasha had already pulled out tetsusaiga.  The battle continued on for a few moments, but was ended rather quickly when Inuyasha swung his tetsusaiga and eliminated the enemy with the windscar.

“Well, that was hardly even worth coming for.”  Inuyasha stated as he placed tetsusaiga back in it’s sheath.

“You don’t even have to tell me, I’m pretty sure that guy didn’t have any jewel shards.”  Inuyasha stated as he looked toward Kagome.

Kagome nodded in confirmation.

Inuyasha was about to mumble something incoherent about wasting his time when he noticed something.  Shippo and Kagome were holding hands.

Inuyasha stared for a moment and this caught Kagome’s attention as she followed Inuyasha’s gaze and saw what he was looking at.

She swallowed nervously for a moment, but decided that there would be no better time to tell him.  “Inuyasha, can I talk to you for a moment.

Inuyasha nodded as he suspected what this was about.

Shippo raised his eyebrow and gave Kagome a questioning look as she left his side to go walk with Inuyasha.

He sighed, “I guess she is going to tell him.”  Shippo stated as she watched the two walk off together slowly.

Sango and Miroku both nodded.  “It had to be done.”  Miroku stated knowingly.

Shippo nodded as well and turned to Shinji.  “So what are you going to do know?”  He questioned the boy.

“I…I guess I am going to go look and see if there is anyone left.”  He stated.

Shippo nodded.   “Alright.  See you later Shinji.”

The boy turned and gave a wave of farewell before taking off to run through the village and search for any survivors.

Shippo sighed again, “I hope it goes well.”  He stated as he thought about how the conversation between Kagome and Inuyasha must be going.

The two walked in silence for a moment until Kagome finally decided to just come right out and say it and just get it over with.

“Inuyasha, I…”

“It’s ok Kagome.  I know you’re with Shippo.”

Kagome blinked in confusion.  “What?”

“I’ve known since yesterday, when you came back with the water you had his scent all over you.”  Inuyasha stated.

“And you didn’t say anything…”

“I was waiting for you to tell me.”  Inuyasha said.

Kagome nodded, “I wanted to, but I didn’t know what to say or how…how you’d…”

“React?” Inuyasha supplied.

Kagome nodded as a silence fell between the two.

“I won’t lie Kagome, I want to tear his little head off.”  Inuyasha stated as he crossed his arms and scowled.

Kagome’s eyes widened, “Inuyasha…”

“But I won’t…”  Inuyasha finished.

Kagome sighed and their was silence again.

“I’m going back to the village on my own.  Make sure everyone gets back ok.”  Inuyasha finally stated as he started to walk away.

Kagome nodded, “I will.”  She watched him go a moment longer, “Inuyasha…”  She called.

He didn’t turn to her but he did stop walking long enough to hear her.

“I’m sorry.”  Was all she said.

Inuyasha scowled to himself again as he tried to resist the urge of hunting down Shippo and tearing him to shreds.

Inuyasha nodded and then took off into the forest without another word.

He was getting rather far away from Kagome, he couldn’t smell her anymore at least.  Once he was sure she was far away he stopped for a moment.  He tried to calm himself down only to turn around and punch a nearby tree.

“How could I have been so stupid!”  He shouted as the tree he just punched began to topple over.

“I should have seen it coming, I could have stopped it, then I could still be…still be.”  Inuyasha sighed as he sat on the ground and placed his head in his hands.

‘Who am I kidding, as much as I have hurt her and pushed her away…’  He thought.  “She’s better off.”  He finally said to himself as he stood back up again and continued on his way back to the village.

Kagome stepped back into the village and smiled when she caught sight of Shippo.

He and the others had decided to help Shinji search for survivors while they were waiting and had already managed to find a few.  Shippo turned and smiled as he saw her coming his way.

“Did everything go ok?”  He asked as he embraced Kagome.

She nodded, “I think it went about as good as we could hope for.”

“Where’s Inuyasha?”  Shippo asked nervously as he wondered if the hanyou was somewhere hiding and waiting for the right chance to strike.

“I think he wanted some time alone.  He said he was going to go ahead back to the village.”  Kagome answered.

Shippo nodded, “Are you ok?”

Kagome smiled, “Of course, I have you, and I’m happy.”

Shippo smiled as he leaned forward and kissed her softly.

Kagome returned his kiss and the two held each other for several moments.

Miroku and Sango smiled as they had been watching this the entire time.

“Hey Sango, why don’t we…”

“Forget it.”  She answered as she cut him off and turned to follow Kirara as she searched for more survivors.
